With having over 25 years of experience in healthcare as a nurse and Nurse Practitioner I definitely consider myself an educator, researcher, consultant, provider, businesswomen and healthcare leader. My journey started by earning my BSN in nursing from Eastern Michigan, my MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Emory University, and later obtained a Doctoral degree in Quality and Education from Mercer University. Recognizing my interest in the business aspect of healthcare, I pursued an MBA from Kennesaw State University. My clinical expertise spans cardiology, research, primary care, retail health, and endocrinology. My passion for diabetes care ignited over a decade ago upon realizing that knowledge could significantly improve individuals' health outcomes. Due to a shortage of community resources, I was motivated to establish diabetes clinics across Georgia. I have educated hundreds of nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Assistants, Community Health Workers, virtual care managers, and others to train, educate and coach individuals with diabetes. I've provided consultancy for numerous prominent healthcare organizations and lectured at academic institutions, including Mercer University, Emory University, Georgia State, and Morehouse University, among others. In 2023, the American Diabetes Association acknowledged my innovative contributions to education and invited me to join the Education Recognition Board. Now, it's time to extend this education to community service providers, who are crucial in bridging the gap for individuals with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Let's make it happen!

My doctoral research focused on identifying the catalysts for behavioral change. I conducted a study with veterans to explore their collaboration with VA hospitals in ensuring safety during hospitalization. It was essential to determine their understanding and readiness to engage in safety practices. The research aimed to assess their knowledge and attitudes initially, and then to see if education led to behavioral change. This revealed that mindset is a crucial element in driving change. When applying this understanding to diabetes management, I discovered that behavioral change is achievable when there is a personal connection, and the right questions are posed to ascertain mindset. Community, culture, and consistent engagement are key to aiding individuals in managing diabetes and pursuing healthier lifestyles. My objective is to cultivate diabetes champions within their primary circles, such as service providers.
To achieve this, I want to train service providers on the significance of integrating the client's mindset, knowledge, and attitudes towards diabetes, emphasizing that this information is critical for leading an optimal life. I have developed a framework to assist non-healthcare professionals in supporting their clients to succeed in living well with diabetes.
